You don't want this to happen to your PSP!
Don't worry, if you don't install the homebrew programs (ex: downgraders and firmware emulators) and stick to the official firmware upgrades and you'll be 100% fine.

Thank you for this, I was deciding whether or not to get one, and that right there answered it for me.
^Well, that's if you install illegal software on it. If you stick with the legal firmware upgrades you shouldn't have a problem.
than i would definantly have a problem. LOL.
