Following up the previous post

My next video might be "Jack's Sad Solo", with "Rejected (Feat. Rhys Darby)" and a lyrics modified version of "I'm not Crying".

The easiest change I wish I could make is to change the "3 years later" title in My Angry Dance 2 into "5-6 years later".

We're currently scouting possible post-secondary locations and the advise has all turned out for the worse.

A cold slap of reality every foreign fan of a US company should know...

I hear a lot of young European (or International) fans of certain US companies (with my example pointing to video game developers) sounding really enthusiastic that they want to work in the US with these types of companies. But, all those prospecting to it outside of the USA might want a cold hard slap of reality when you consider this:

You need at least a US Work Visa or a Advanced Degree from a accredited US educational institution.

Sound easy? You're dead wrong. To even apply for a Work Visa, you need a Advanced Degree from university. (That means, if you're an avid 15 year old programmer, You won't even be in the US until you're at least 23.) Not only that, there is a limited amount of space and it's highly competitive, the best GPA or Educations get advantage over all others. So forget it if you want to apply for a H-1B right out of High School or use a diploma to do so.

That's not all, to stay in the US, you must apply for a Greencard. The H1-B is not permanent and will expire in 3 years with only one chance to renew. So if you stayed 6 years, you have to leave the US and wait a minimum of one year to re-apply. And that would only be if you got the H1-B visa.

And perhaps you saw the humorous take on it in the first episode of Season 2 of Flight of the Conchords. This is no fun and games, Illegal immigration will get you sent to jail.

Finally, to even get to a US University or College, you must pull yourself together and force your education to it's almighty best then move to the US as an immigrant. Again, this is NOT easy.

Read this post several times and review whether or not you REALLY want to work in the US. I already got my cold slap, so I hope this gives many other prospecting young foreign game makers to think twice. Because if they already have people that are just as good or better than you, why would they want you?

My goodness, time for an update...

Post-secondary's calling...

Balancing focus between Media Arts and Math is getting harder...

And my Grad Transitions is still not done. (But must get done)

And for those only following my Blog, I finally have "IT". (I'm too busy to do a Vlog about it, so that will have to wait.)

I'll Sue Ya 3, the triple trouble. (and the end of Fair Use on YouTube)

If you upload a video with a song mixed in, you now best hope it's not detected by the Video ID system.

YouTube's Video ID partners have abandoned Fair Use and now blocks videos if they've been detected by the Video ID system. Any identifiable content is now blocked and banned.

EFF, you'll have your work cut out for this one...

This also brings up a site called YouTomb, it shows nearly all the videos YouTube has taken down.

YouTomb

Update: Here's the EFF's take on the January YouTube Fair Use Massacre (That's right, Massacre): http://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2009/01/youtubes-january-fair-use-massacre
This is a must read.
Update #2: They just won't stop... it continues... now on singing babies! http://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2009/03/fair-use-massacre-continues-now-warner-s-going-aft

VLC gets uglier...

Versus

I love the streamlined ans simple design of the old VLC, don't the buttons on the new ones look so clunky and not streamlined?

Just like Folding@home's community response to the NVIDIA GPU project 5748, there is a consensus of dislike to the new interface. The discussion continues here.

I particularly like this post from the discussion:

"I don't need fancier controls or styles - if I did, I would have used a skin. It's all just in the way, quite unnecessarily. The design philosophy of the VLC was never to try to compete with the fancy-smancy commercial products with their increasingly convoluted interfaces - it makes me sad to see this change."

That is exactly how I feel about this. But hey... it now supports AVCHD so that's a plus. But man is it so ugly...

I'll be sticking to VLC version 0.8.6 until this changes...

It's no surprise what my New Years Resolution is...
