With the introduction of the new YouTube content recognition system later this year, Fair Use is at far more risk on that site.
Although YouTube touts: "It's not a filtering system. The technology doesn't block uploads, It makes it much more effective and quicker to get us to remove inappropriately uploaded content. It's very much compliant with the DMCA.", Copyright owners might abuse this system to their advantage.
Remember the Viacom video takedown on YouTube? Here's a video showing how even Non-Viacom videos were taken down in the takedown. (courtesy of EFF)
Wake up, If you created a AMV or edits including their content, even though they qualify for Fair Use, they have a far better chance now to take your video down stripping your Fair Use rights.
The risk to Fair Use on YouTube WILL rise if this system is implemented, copyright owners are starting to ignore Fair Use and your videos may be at risk.
And if you own any Fair Use videos on YouTube, Take this seriously.
I demand that if more than hunderds or thousands of innocent Fair Use videos are taken down within the first week or two weeks that the system is implemented that it be terminated. If it is not terminated, then the EFF will have to take action against it.
They were supposed to give local channels free with the purchase of a HD terminal, not a free preview for one year!?!
Anyways, this sucks terribly and I have to return my HD cable box because of it cause there's no more HD channels and we can't pay the ridiculous amount for getting them back!!!
If you feel this is wrong for the consumer, create a petition against Shaw. Here, I'll give you a link to a website to start one: http://www.petitiononline.com
Man is this unright... Now I have to get an ATSC tuner to get broadcast HD.
Update: Turns out the authentication stuff on my box maybe expired and wasn't renewed. Anyways, the HD's back now.
